Welcome to the Homepage of the Vicariate of Saint Joseph
(Japan). The Vicariate belongs to the Missionary Dominican
Province of the Most Holy Rosary, which is a part of the Order
of Preachers, or Dominicans. The Dominican Order is a
Catholic Religious Order founded by St. Dominic in 1216 for
preaching and the salvation of souls. Its members are
Christian faithful who, under the action of the Holy Spirit, follow
Christ closely by professing the evangelical counsels of
obedience, poverty and chastity. Like the apostles, being of
one mind and one heart in God, they live together in fraternal
communities and they are totally dedicated to God and strive
for the perfection of Charity in service to the Kingdom of God.
This page has been designed in order to introduce the Dominican Order to the Japanese public. Thereby, it contains information about its history, spirituality, saints, activities, etc. It also contains information about the Dominican Family in Japan and their apostolates, especially activities with the Dominican Laity and the Confraternity of the Rosary.
For those who do not understand Japanese, there are two brief pages in English and Spanish, with basic information. However, if further information about our missionary activities in Japan is needed, we can be contacted at sanjose_japan@yahoo.com. For information in other countries check on the International homepage of the Order at www.op.org, or the homepage of our Province at http://www.holyrosaryprovince.org.
